Geared Up By God

Sometimes I hear a voice inside my head, whispering to me, “You’re too broken, too battered, too scarred; you’re not important enough, not beautiful enough, not good enough for God to use you. How could you ever even have thought God would think YOU’RE good enough?” Many days, I feel myself believing those lies, falling right into the trap Satan has set for me. And just when I’m about to pack up all my ideas and plans, and scurry off into a hole somewhere, I hear that still, small voice quietly calling out to me. “You are fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14); “You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you” (Philippians 4:13); “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9). We often don’t feel as important or as worthy as the people we read about in the Bible, I mean, they all seem to have some unique strength or power, something we’ll probably never have. And then we read about John the Baptist.

John the Baptist didn’t perform any miracles. Healing people wasn’t how he spread God’s word. He spoke the word and told others of Jesus. He had no miraculous powers like the other disciples did. John 10:41 says, “John did no sign, but everything that John said about this man was true.” John was simply called to tell others about Jesus. It’s kind of mind-blowing to think that God has given us the exact same assignment as John the Baptist. We are called not to perform miracles or force our faith in Christ on others, but only to point others to Jesus.

The enemy will try to stop us, to silence our words, and our actions, and this is when it’s so important to meditate on God’s word, and his promises. If we study his word, then our hearts will have peace. And the peace of God is something no one can steal, though they may, and they will, try to. Psalm 19:14 states, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer”. This means that our words and our thoughts, not just about others, but about ourselves, are to be pure and true. If we want to spread God’s love, we must spread it to ourselves first. We can only help those in the fire if we put on our safety gear first. Once we ground ourselves in God’s word and truth, we will be unstoppable. No one will be able to tell us we’re not enough, because we are Chosen. We are Children of the One True King.

Despite what the world says, what the Devil says, we don’t have to be important or yield incredible power to impact the people around us for Christ; we just have to fill our lungs with God’s truth, and open our mouths.
