Finding Meaning in the Mundane

Meaning. It’s a powerful word, isn’t it? How do you measure meaning in your life? Is it based on earthly standards, such as how much you do during the day, or how much money you make, or perhaps the types of things you own? If so, you’ve been looking for meaning in all the wrong places. If we want to live a meaningful life here on earth, we first need to look to the one who created it all, to look to his will for our lives, and do our best to follow it. I’m sure you, like me, sometimes find yourself wondering if there is any point, any purpose behind our mundane daily routine. I think we all wonder at some point or other in our lives, “Will I always be stuck in this rut?”, If you do, know you’re not alone, and that the answer is no, we won’t. Jesus promises us in John 8:12 that if we look to him, we will find the light we need to follow his path so carefully planned out for us, “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” If we vow to follow God, no matter what life throws at us, we will be able to perceive his will for our lives and therefore follow it. And if we work to follow him in all we do in our lives, and glorify him in all of our actions, he will give our lives true meaning and purpose, if we can just hold fast to him in this chaotic, fast-paced, and ever-spinning world.
