God Always Provides

Once again, I find myself so amazed at how God provides for our every need. Last week, my brother gave me tickets for the Phillies game for my birthday. I was so excited to be going to the game. My mom and I were going to meet my friend there. On the way there, I could tell my mom was a little nervous about going on our own. My dad had to work late, so he couldn’t make the game, and it was probably our first time ever going completely alone, my mom having to push me in my wheelchair, and carry our stuff (I can only hold so much with one functioning arm/hand). My mom put everything in one of those white reusable Shoprite bags, so that she could carry our food and water, and personal things, and still push me, and we journeyed on.

Crossing the street before we got to Citizens Bank Park, my wheelchair got stuck on the curb (as it often does), and we couldn’t get the wheel out of the rut it was caught in. A pair of voices behind us asked if we needed help. We gladly accepted, finding that the voices belonged to a couple whom we used to attend church with, years ago. Before we continued, the husband of the couple politely insisted to my mom that he would push me to the gate.

We got to the gate, and we were informed that the bag deemed so helpful just minutes ago would not be accompanying us inside, as it was not see-through. My mom, knowing we couldn’t carry everything without a bag, decided to take out our personal stuff and dump the rest. That was when our heroes stepped forward again, once more, and offered to push me so my mom could bring our food in with us. And although their seats were on the first level and ours on the second, they insisted on helping us to our seats. After getting to our seats and thanking them profusely before they headed off, my mom sat down and we talked about how we literally wouldn’t have made it up without them, and what a miracle it was that we hadn’t seen them in years, and just happened to see them tonight.

I kept thinking about how nervous I was earlier, and how nervous my mom seemed, but never once mentioned it, as the game went on. I realized that God works in such astounding ways. He always gives us exactly what we need to keep pushing on. If we just step forward and keep going, he will provide you with exactly what you need, exactly when you need it, before you even realize you need anything. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”- Philippians 4:13 is one of my favorite verses. But Philippians 4:19 shows us even more evidence of how he will strengthen us: “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” I am so grateful that God knows my every need before I do, and is right there to help me through, and I am so thankful for the people in our lives who step in to physically provide that heavenly help, here on Earth.
