Live Unapologetically

Have you ever apologized for something you did or said, not because it was wrong or rude, but because you’re embarrassed of what someone might think of you? Are you worried about what they might think of you and what you’ve done, or said, or maybe even ate in front of them? Please don’t be. Don’t ever be afraid to be yourself, in front of anyone. If someone doesn’t like you for you, who cares? I know that’s easier said than done, but I’ve found in life that the only person I really have to account to, other than myself, is to God. And he made me just the way I am. As Megan Woods says, “I make him proud, and I make him smile, I was made in the image of a perfect king, he looks at me and wouldn’t change a thing.” If we were made in God’s perfect image, why would we want to be any different than how he made us to be? Should we try to be the very best version of ourselves? Sure. But that doesn’t mean changing who we are on the inside, our values, or our morals, just so we can fit into the mold the world thinks we should. There’s a quote from Cheryl Strayed that I love, “What’s important is that you make the leap. Jump high and hard with intention and heart. Pay no minds to the vision that the committee made up. You get to make your life.” In other words, if we let what others think of us dictate how we live, what we do, or say, or believe, we aren’t being true to ourselves, or to what we really want. If the caterpillars were worried that the other insects might think they were sleeping too much it would never go into its cocoon and emerge as a butterfly. In a world where everyone tells us what we should or shouldn’t do, say, wear, or eat, defy gravity and be yourself, who you want to be, who God made you to be. Don’t dilute yourself for anyone. You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).
