Don’t let the Devil Steal your Joy

Sometimes, it feels like my prayers will never be answered, it’s like God isn’t listening at all. And I find myself starting to believe Satan’s lies that I’m not good enough, that I’m too far gone even for God to bring back. “I’ve probably disappointed him too much for him to waste his time on me again,” I think. But then, I read God’s word, and I remember that these fear-filled worry-laden lies are just that. Lies. From the devil himself. You see, Satan uses fear to try and steal our joy. If we were to write out a list of all of the sins we have committed in our lives, it’d probably be miles and miles long. But when Christ died on the cross for us, he took our lists from us and put them in the paper shredder, and then dumped those shredded-up pieces into the trash, saying, “It is finished,” and our sin was no more.

If we look at the Bible, we know that God sent Christ into the world, despite all of the chaos and pandemonium. In fact, if we look at the story of Christ’s birth, he was born into imperfect circumstances. He was born in a manger with farm animals, to teenage adolescent parents, who were considered to be very poor. You see, the circumstances were burdensome, but they ended up producing God’s greatest miracle. God can use us, and even our struggles, to produce miracles in our lives and to achieve his will. Remember, in spite of the long list of sins we have each committed, Christ came. And he died for us so that those sins would no longer be remembered. So, the next time Satan tries to trick you into thinking that you aren’t good enough, or that you’ve sinned too many times, you can look him straight in the eyes and say, “Christ paid that debt for me”.
