You Are Important

I think many of us have felt at some point in our lives like we aren’t important or anybody special. Or maybe we’ve felt like the world would be better off without us in it. I know I have.

But please stay, stick around. You’ll never know for sure unless you’re here to see it. God, the creator of the universe, the king of the whole world, made you and I. And he made us in his image. So, the next time you are feeling small, or unimportant, remember who made you, and whose child you are. God made us for something bigger than our whole world.

I’m so glad that I made the choice to ignore those voices in my head telling me I’m no one, and that the world would be better without me in it. I’m so glad to still be here.

Yes, it’s hard, and cold, and lonely sometimes, but there are so many good things about it.  I wouldn’t get to see my nephew grow up, or go on trips with my family, or watch the sun rise and set; I wouldn’t get to bake any more cookies or cakes, I wouldn’t get to take any more photos or read any more books. I wouldn’t get to write any more poems, and most importantly, I wouldn’t get to help other people see God. I love this line from the play Our Town, “Oh Earth… you’re too wonderful for anybody to realize you” (Wilder, 1938). It shows that these things I mentioned may seem so trivial and small, but in reality, they are the big things.

They are all parts of our lives, and as I mentioned above, our lives are, indeed, pretty important. God created each of us for a unique purpose, so we should cling to him in our time on Earth, and make sure we stick around to find out what it is.
