We are God’s Disciples: The Light of the World:

Do you ever look at your life and it feels like everything you love is being stripped away? It doesn’t seem fair. Your health is declining, or your family member(s) have passed away, or your friends moved too far from you, you lost your job, etc. Why would God allow this to happen to us? How could he not answer our prayers when he sees all the hardship we’re going through?

I think sometimes, when everything is going well in our life, we ignore God, other than maybe going to church on Sundays. But when we start enduring these trials of life, and start hitting our rock bottom, then we seek God and his wisdom so much more.

Maybe God isn’t answering our prayers during our difficult times not to be mean, or cruel, but to get us to seek him, to cling to him, to help us to understand that we can’t live our life here on Earth, not a meaningful one, anyway, without putting God first, and seeking him first.

Perhaps God strips everything in our lives away from us so that we can seek him, and follow him. Maybe, this is God’s way of choosing his disciples here on Earth. After all, in Luke 14:33, Jesus says, “In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples”.

I know what you might be thinking, that God seems like a bit of a spoiled child, taking away anything good in our lives so that we can focus on only him. I thought this at first almost, but then thought to myself, how cool and remarkable is it that God, the creator of the universe, the ruler of all nations, wants me and you to be his disciples? That the king of the world can use “little ol’ me” to save the lives of others is kind of incredible. And, I know that our eternal reward for following God and leading others to him through the way we live our lives every day is far greater than any amount of money or any experience that I have here in this temporary world is.

So whenever you’re feeling like all the light is being stripped from your life, remember it is because God is making you the light.
