Have you ever done a lot during the day & felt like you got so much done? It feels amazing, right?! But then you check social media and see someone posted about how they did all these huge things. And then what you just did feels like nothing.
I’ve found that when living with a chronic illness, we learn to celebrate even the smallest of wins. Like today, I sent a couple of emails I needed to send, baked some cookies for Christmas, and organized some crafting things. It doesn’t sound like much, but for someone with a chronic illness who often deals with pain, fatigue, and headaches, it’s a huge win. For me, just being able to do these few things today means that my chronic illness didn’t win today.
I’ve learned that it’s okay to celebrate your wins, no matter how minuscule they may seem to others. It’s pretty cool that we get to celebrate these small wins because most people just skim over the ordinary things in life. But for those with chronic illnesses, we get to find and see all of the beauty in the ordinary. But seriously, if you get to do something you wanted to do today, don’t let your friends post about vacationing somewhere tropical, or about getting their house cleaned for the holidays make you feel down. Instead, celebrate what you were able to do today. Even if it’s not what we would like to have done with our day, God has us just where we are meant to be right now, and we can celebrate that, no matter how small our win may seem.
