God meets us in Dark Places

There are many weekends when Sunday rolls around, and unfortunately, due to reasons beyond my control, such as chronic fatigue, pain, or headaches, I am not up to attending church. This frustrates me to no end. I feel like I’m not able to earn God’s grace because I am too exhausted to go to church. If I can’t even get up enough energy to attend church, why should he extend his grace to me? But that’s when God reminds me that he loves all of us. His love does not rely on our actions or deeds, but he loves us because of his goodness, kindness, and amazing devotion to us. Does he want us to spend time in fellowship with other believers? Yes, but he isn’t going to get mad at us because our bodily condition isn’t allowing us to. He loves us no matter what, no matter where we are, he meets us there. God’s love is not conditional, like the love of our world is. God’s love is unconditional, and the most amazing part about this love God has for us, along with his mercy and his grace for us, is that we don’t have to do anything to earn it. We could never earn it if we tried. But God knows this and he chooses to love us and extend his unending mercy and grace to us, still. Plus, we don’t have to be in a building to praise and meet with God. He meets us where we are, even if where we are is amidst darkness and pain, God’s grace is greater than these things, and he meets us there to let us know that we are not alone, that he is standing here with us.
